Domain cost calculator

A low first-year price is only one part of the cost. Compare two quotes over the years you plan to keep a domain. Enter prices from the registrars in the same currency and on the same tax basis. This tool does not fetch live prices.

Enter two quotes

Amounts are calculated in your browser only. Example values are fictitious, not prices offered by a particular registrar.

Quote B

Registration price and renewal price are different inputs

Enter the charge for the first registration year separately from the annual price after year one. A multi-year bundle, transfer fee or expired-domain restoration fee may have different conditions and should not be treated as an ordinary one-year registration quote. Check those terms before using this simplified comparison.

The total-cost formula

Total = first-year registration + annual renewal × (years − 1) + one-time extras + annual extras × years. Annual extras are assumed to start in year one. Tiered future increases, exchange-rate changes, changing taxes and services that start only in later years are not modeled automatically.

Worked example: the lower launch price is not always the lower total

For a fictitious quote A of $8 in year one and $24 per renewal year, three years cost $56 before extras. A fictitious quote B of $15 in year one and $18 per renewal year costs $51. The second quote is $5 lower over that period despite its higher initial charge. These are calculation examples, not current offers from any registrar.

Compare like with like before deciding

Check the exact spelling, extension, registration term, currency and whether each quote includes taxes. Include only the privacy, email, hosting or other extras you actually plan to select. A lower entered total is not a rating of a registrar’s support, transfer terms or service quality.
